Maternity Photo Session with Svetlana (Granada Hills)

I really enjoy shooting maternity photos because pregnancy is such a fleeting time, and I feel that it is really important to capture it. Those photos are the cornerstone for all the cute infant, toddler, pre-schooler, and other photos to follow!

And last month, I had the opportunity to do a short maternity session with a dear friend of mine, my first "model" that I practiced my craft on years ago, before it was ever my craft and only a hobby. :)

Here are just a few faves:

Family Session with Nicole and Abby

Toddlers are notorious for being difficult to photograph. They simply don't have a lot of interest in or patience for smiling for the camera or staying in one place. What they are interested in, however, is exploring the world around them, whether it's picking up leaves and rocks off the ground, jumping off chairs, or just running around. What that means is that, with some patience and skill, it is a lot easier to capture exciting action shots of a toddler than classic portraits.

With this intro, I present to you the family photos of Nicole and Abby. During our photo session at the Stanford Shopping Center, Abby ran around and explored, just as she was supposed to, and I snapped away. Nicole, pregnant with her second daughter, did not skip a beat and was there interacting with Abby to make for truly dynamic shots. Below are some of my favorites from that session:

Maternity Photo Session with Rebecca & Igor

I feel very delinquent--it has been several weeks since our maternity photo session with Rebecca and Igor and I am just now getting around to posting the photos! But it has been a rather busy September...

I will preface these photos by saying that Rebecca is one of these girls who makes pregnancy look easy and painless. Her skin is fantastic. Her feet aren't swolen. She hasn't gained any weight anywhere where she shouldn't. In short, she is having one of those fantastic pregnancies that all the girls always envision themselves having and few actually do. Rebecca and Igor are a great, easy-going couple and I really enjoyed working with them. Our session was fun, easy-breezy. :-)

And now, without further ado, here are the select photos from the session:

Maternity Photo Session with Alissa (Mountain View)

After featuring the promising, but not particularly satisfying "Coming Soon" sign on my website for some time now, I have run out of excuses and resolved to start blogging.

As a photographer, I will focus my blog on providing you with updates of my photo-escapades. I believe one never stops learning and that photography is an art, which must find resonance in the hearts of the viewers in order to be considered masterful. Therefore, please post your comments, thoughts, and suggestions and tell me what I'm doing right and even what I am not.

For my first post I have decided to include photos from a maternity photography session that I did last week with Alissa, the mother of a beautiful two year old girl, and currently in her 30th week of being pregnant with twin boys. Unfortunately, Alissa was has been on doctor-prescribed bedrest for the past month and we couldn't have our session sooner. But despite her discomfort, Alissa was fantastic (though I will let you be the judges). :-) She says she has only had professional photos done when her daughter was a month old and before that on her wedding day, but the question I have most frequently gotten since I have started showcasing Alissa's photos has been--"Is she a model?"

Ok, so maybe this is not a maternity photo, but I couldn't help myself.

I am feeling a little nervous, since this is my first post, so please don't hold back your positive feedback--I really need the reinforcement. :-D

Until next time!
